Petition against CEC filed
By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29: The Majlis-i-Tahafuz Khatm-i-Nabuwwat (MTKN) on Thursday filed a writ petition under Article 199 of the Constitution in the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court against the Chief Election Commissioner for what it termed unlawful withholding of the Halafnama (affidavit) declaring Qadianis as non-Muslims from the electoral rolls and for printing and distributing such electoral rolls.

The petitioner has prayed for court’s direction to the Election Commission of Pakistan to give effect to the 2nd Amendment made in conduct of general elections order 2002 by making the requisite affidavit as part of the electoral rolls before their printing and distribution.

Filed on behalf of Maulana Abdul Waheed Qasmi, secretary-general of the Islamabad chapter of MTKN, the petition seeks remedy against the CEC for “wilfully” avoiding to give effect to the amendment to the Conduct of General Elections Order 2002 whereby the said affidavit was to be made part of the electoral rolls.
