Anti-Ahmadiyya plan foiled

Our Correspondent, Barisal

Police yesterday foiled a scheduled programme of the International Khatme Nabuyat Movement (IKNM) to evict members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community from Patuakhali district town.

According to the local administration, police and other sources, huge numbers of armed police took position at the different key points including the meeting venue of IKNM and Ahmadiyya mosque in Mithapukur area from Tuesday night.

Thousands of Muslim fanatics assembled at the Patuakhali Shahid Alauddin Shishu Park under the banner of IKNM for a meeting at about 11:00am to execute the pre-scheduled programme.

Later, the zealots took out a procession and march to the Ahmadiyya mosque at Mithapukur, but police intercepted them some 200 metres from the mosques. The marchers insisted that the Ahmadiyyas stashed arms and other anti-Islamic preaching materials in the mosque.

Following a compromise deal, an IKNM delegation accompanied by police entered the mosque and found a holy Quran and its Bangla version. Subsequently, the mob dispersed at around 2:00pm and the situation returned to normal.
