Khatme Nabuwat’s attack condemned
Ahmadiyya families face eviction threats in Satkhira
UNB from Satkhira, adds: Some 250 Kadiani families are living amid insecurity following attacks on seven of their houses today and in the wake of an eviction ultimatum from the rival Khatme Nabuwat religious group.
Informed sources said a group of agitated Khatme Nabuwat activists on Tuesday ransacked and looted seven Kadiani houses in Jatindranagar of Syamnagar upazila and gave the area’s 250 Kadiani families a 5-day ultimatum to leave their homes.
Three members of Kadiani community were also injured in an attack near Chhoto Bhetkhali canal today, they said. The attackers allegedly also looted goods worth Tk 1.50 lakh from a shop belonging to a Kadiani at Bhetkhali bazar on Monday night.
Threats and stray violent incidents continued despite deployment of nearly two platoons of police force in the area in the wake of rising tension over the Kadiani controversy in the district, residents complained.
Official sources said additional policemen were rushed Tuesday to potential troubled areas of the district to avert any fresh violence.
