Muslims facing dangerous situation

A group of politicians and intelligentsia Saturday suggested that all religious communities should enjoy equal freedom to follow their respective religions as enshrined in the country’s Constitution, reports UNB.

They made the observations at a discussion organized by the Ahmediya community on the second day of a 3-day annual conference at their central mosque at Bakshibazar.

Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, JSD leader Moinuddin Khan Badal, Prof. AAMS Arefin Siddiqui of Dhaka University and Dr Tareq Saiful Islam of Rajshahi University participated in the discussion presided over by Afzal Ahmed Khadem, Ameer of Dhaka Ahmediya.

Menon said Muslims across the world are now facing a dangerous situation when fanaticism is being fanned out denying the Constitutional rights and leading to intolerance. He said intolerance is created in a society when undemocratic theories are imposed on the people due to religious fanaticism.

Moinuddin Khan Badal said religious fundamentalism is the root of all mundane problems in the society.

Prof. Arefin Siddiqui said the Constitution guarantees all religious faiths to follow their respective religions. He said humanity does not suffer if religion is truly practiced. He said fundamentalism rises due to abuse of religion for individual interests.

Dr. Tareq Saiful Islam suggested that any controversy could be resolved in the light of Quran and Hadith.
